So, there's good and bad on the writing front this week.
The good: I went to Dan Wells' signing for Mr. Monster (which, by the way, is just as brilliant as the first book in the series, I Am Not a Serial Killer). He asked how my writing was going, and when I said I'd finished my first draft and was headed to revisions, I got a high five and a free magnet with John Cleaver's Rules. :)
Nothing like encouragement to make a bad day of rewriting better! And...you really should check out this book. I read it in one day. It was that good.

Sounds hilarious! Good luck with those rewrites. I have definitely made a chapter worse with a revision before. :(
Sounds like a great book! Good luck with your revisions. That's probably the part of the writing cycle that takes the longest for me.
Oh cool! How awesome to get encouragement like that. I love Mr. Monster rules... I haven't heard of this author or these books and I can tell I'm missing out!
That sucks about your first scene, but I'm sure you'll work it out. Good luck!
I really don't think I can follow all those rules...Good luck!
That sounds fantastic. Thanks for the heads up on the book, too. :O)
Oooh good luck with the rewrites!
Headed over to goodreads to put in on my "to read" list.
Thanks!
I HATE it when a re-write goes awry...
Very nice. Dan is such a cool fellow. And you have a finished draft to do rewrites on. A lot of people have a hard time getting to that point, so congratulate yourself and hop to it.
I love the rules, hilarious! And congrats on slogging through the rewrites. I hate those facepalm moments where you look at what you've rewritten, and realise you just went backwards. But then you get a magnet! Step forward!
Here's a question... How do you know if you've made a rewritten scene better or worse?
I'm an artist, I'm not a writer. But I love books and have such an admiration for those with the talent to pull me into their Word World and transport me with visual images. I came here via Laini Taylor's site. When I read your comment there about beards, I knew you had to be from Utah. I wish you well in the pursuit of your dreams. Never quit.
BTW, your praise of Wells' book has convinced me to check out his new book.
I'm now a follower.
